California’s Central Valley Flood Protection Board updates the Central Valley Flood Protection Plan every 5 years.
The Plan finds opportunities to improve flood safety while supporting additional benefits like clean water, restored natural areas for fish and wildlife, and increased access to recreational opportunities.
The Plan aspires to improve flood protection for over one million people and $70 billion in homes, businesses, agricultural land, and infrastructure.
The Central Valley Flood Protection Board adopted an updated plan in 2017. It identifies the multi-benefit approach to flood protection as a top priority for local, regional and state flood managers.
The Los Angeles Times wrote an editorial about why the 2017 update is an important step to protect water supplies and flood safety for all Californians
